Product Design Engineer Electronic Products

Location: Lancashire
£35,000 £40,000 + Benefits

Permanent Position
Im seeking a Product Design Engineer to join a business that develops advanced electromechanical products for the safety and security markets.
You will act as the sole design engineer and provide leadership across the companys design activities. The company have a number of new projects in the pipeline, so your focus will be on NPD and will see you involved in every stage of the development lifecycle encompassing conceptualisation, design, development, assembly, testing and manufacture through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide leadership across the companys design activities
Plan and coordinate design activities alongside electronics, software and manufacturing teams
Requirements capture for new products
Development of mechanical concepts using sketches, prototyping and 3D CAD
The production of 3D detailed designs and 2D manufacturing drawings
Selection of materials and components
Compile product tests and verification procedures: IP, EMC, impact ect.
Manage relationships with internal & external manufacturing, assembly and production teams
Monitor location and status of tooling for plastic mouldings
Creation and maintenance of BoMs and production packs
Assist the production department with the design of jigs & fixtures

Experience and Background Required:

A high profile Design Engineer with at least 3 years experience and a good track record in the design and development of electromechanical products
Proficient 3D CAD user, ideally SolidWorks for the creation of 3D detailed designs and 2D manufacturing drawings
Experience of Keyshot rendering, Photoshop & AutoCAD is desirable
Good concept design skills focusing on aesthetics and user experience
Experience designing plastic injection moulded components
Strong knowledge of plastics & injection mould tooling
Good working knowledge of other manufacturing processes and tooling i.e. die casting and machined parts (aesthetic and functional applications)
Experience working with far eastern tooling manufacturers with the ability to run tooling projects & trials
Strong working knowledge of electro mechanical design including electronic packaging, PCBs, EMC & ESD compliance and testing & ingress protection
Experience and the ability to compile and complete product testing & associated documentation: IP, EMC, impact ect.
Understanding of geometrical & dimensional tolerances

Qualification Requirements

A Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline

You will be given the freedom to use your experience to help grown and develop the companys design activities, playing a a pivotal role in the development of advanced electronic products.
